The Sun and the Moon

I did something today that may seem minor to most, but it's huge to me. I cut my hair short... and by short, I mean:

It has never been this short before. I was so worried. I know it's hair, but if you know me, you know my hair is a big thing that makes me frustrated because while I have great hair, I can never be satisfied with it. It was a big step for me. I'm trying to change up my style as I've said before. This is a good step. It feels different yet so good.

Another huge thing going on right now is this 20th Anniversary Madrigals Reunion Concert. Ms. Matthews and I are planning this huge concert for the 20th year of Madrigals. I've been contacting people from over the past 20 years who were in Madrigals at Godwin. We'll be getting together next year during Memorial Day Weekend to sing a few old favorite Madrigals songs with some of our own classmates and those who came before/after us. It's going to be so awesome. This is the biggest event I have ever planned, so I know it's going to stress me out a lot, haha. I'm looking forward to this, and I'm so glad I was trusted to hold the reigns on this project. I cannot wait to hear the massive awesomeness of this project. So excited. Hopefully we can get it recording. That'd be so awesome. :)

Speaking of Richmond, I checked out the house I could potentially live in next year. Let's just say as soon as the roommate moves out, my name will be on the lease. I loved the house. It was in an excellent location, huge backyard, good sized room, sun room, nice kitchen, I could go on and on. I want it. Now. We'll see. Baby steps in my chronicles post college. Baby steps. :)

Don't Rain on My Parade

Update from the last post: I did not receive a phone call yet again from the Executive Director of KDR. He failed to call me for the second time. It's almost been two weeks since he was suppose to call me. I think at this point I've had it with waiting, and I'm moving forward with my job and housing search. I'm annoyed, but I'm not going to let this get me down. I have to keep moving and searching. Right now I'm looking at a beautiful house in Richmond right on Monument. It's a perfect little house, I'd be sharing it with two other guys (who I don't know, so it'll be fun to meet new people), and I'll be able to audition for Richmond theater. It'll work out for at least a year, if not two years. After two years, I can't sit in Richmond anymore. I'll be out of there, either to New York or Michigan then New York. My friends Ashleigh, Andrew and I made a pact that we'd move to NY in two years together. Hopefully Andrew will have gotten his grad degree from Penn State and will be accepted into a doctorate program in NY. That's our goal. Ashleigh wants to go into fashion, and I of course will be attempting to break into the theater scene.

I'm so excited yet I'm going crazy. It's going to be an interesting ride, I know it will. You work so hard in college, but, honestly, no one tells you how to prepare for post-college unless you go right to graduate school. One of our former faculty members did a workshop on how to make it, but it turned into a monologue workshop, so I decided not to attend. He's an ass, so I cannot waste my time with him. I think I can make it, I know I can. This house is going to be amazing if I can secure a job in Richmond. I'm dreaming big here, dreaming big. :)

Rose's Turn

I started doing the Insanity workout yesterday. Oh boy. I woke up this morning and couldn't move for a while. Day one is the fitness test. That's sad. But I made myself feel a little better because I was not too far off on my numbers from the people in the video. I did okay. I'm really out of shape, so a lot of things I could not do over and over again. Today was the first day of actual working out (hah, I could argue that): Plyometric Cardio Circuit. It started off fine, a lot of the stretches in the video were the same from my dance classes, so no biggie. Then we got into all of the core working out. It took many expletives to get through that work out. I hope no one lives above me right now... it'd be interesting to know they hear me grunting as I work out. Oh boy, so I'm going to keep up with that. I have to get in shape. I chose an industry where you have to look good to get good parts.

I think my fascination with body types and changing mine began junior year. I took a class called The Actor's Body. We did a lot of stretches, learned about anatomy, and (most importantly in my opinion) learned how to carry yourself in an audition. My musical theater professor taught the class, so I remember a lot of what he said as I took at least one (if not, two) classes from him a semester until he left. Well, one thing that the entire class was in an uproar about was body types. He stated you can never change your body type. Jack Black will always be the funny fat guy, Nicole Kidman will always be the skinny female lead. Well, okay. Those examples were okay, but my classmates were not to happy he called us out by our body types. We all disagreed strongly with what he said. Sure, you cannot change your bone structure unless you do some psycho surgery, but I feel like you can lose or gain weight to become another body type. I will not allow myself to remain in the Jack Black category. I've been the old man or funny large guy in almost every show. I'm bored with this part. I know if I lost weight I could do any part I wanted. That's showbiz, and I'm doing it for myself because I'm way too ambitious for my own good. Plus, I really need to get into shape. I have body image as it is, so I need to work on that.

Okay, enough whining for today about my body. I'm waiting for a phone call for my 3rd interview with KDR Nationals. Cross your fingers it happens. I've been waiting a week and four days now...

Telescopes

So this is the next chapter of my life: post college. I want to blog more, and not just about my day to day activities. I'm going to start discussing things more often. Maybe I'll put in a few more videos, pictures and weekly sort of things. I'll probably end up discussing Glee a lot, haha.

Speaking of Glee, my first discussion topic is going to be this Myspace audition the Glee team just did. You had to upload a video of you saying your background in singing and why you wanted to be on the show. Then they provided you with 10 horrendous karaoke tracks with which you had to sing along (or do it a cappella but those auditions sounded terrible). So I uploaded my two videos. I tried to sound really honest in mine, which my friend Nicole said I did so hooray for that. Then my song... wow. I chose "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Stones because I like the classic rock they do on the show. Plus everyone and their mother was singing "Lean on Me," "Rehab," or "Don't Rain on My Parade." The track was SO SLOW. It was six grueling minutes of this song. I had to go a little riffy and crazy. Otherwise I would have gone nuts singing this song straight. I think I overdid it, but whatever. So I sent mine away, and I've gotten good responses from people. I watched a lot of other videos... and I'll be honest: people flat out suck. My favorite intro videos included using song titles as parts of sentences (i.e. "'Don't Rain on My Parade' by not picking me!") and people had never seen Glee. Oh, okay. Well, they did this voting thing where you could give your favorite videos "gold stars" a la Rachel Berry in the show. I had a respectable 18520. Some girl had upwards of 65000-70000 and she was good... but some others had over 50000 stars and were wretched. Thank goodness those votes do not count because some people were AWFUL yet apparently viewers thought it'd be hilarious to vote for them. Call me old fashioned but why get these people's hopes up? Honestly, some people just cannot sing. I'm not saying I'm the best, but I did train for four years in college, four years of high school, and at least six (if not more) years before high school on this matter. Anyway, who knows when anyone will hear from them, but apparently the producers are looking through all the videos. I'd love for them to ask me to read or sing something else. It's a total pipe dream, but who knows. It'd be pretty awesome.

Instead of thinking Glee will happen, because it's a one in a million shot, I'm looking at places to live in Richmond. Right now I have found two houses with rooms for rent. I know, it's a little weird to move into a house with strangers, but I really like the listings. I may go visit them over the weekend when I'm home just to check them and the people out. The prices are very acceptable, and the locations are ideal for me. This year is going to be a money making year. I'll start working towards New York which may happen in one year instead of two. We'll see. I have to make a plan, and it'll all unfold before me... I hope. :)
